Before You Paint Your Home Blue, Read This

I get a lot, if not all my blog post inspirations from my clients. Meaning I listen to them and come up with blog posts based on what they said.

Now this is an interesting direction that I see blue going in and it's not very good.

The past few clients I've had both live and virtual have not been fans of blue. One client in Fort Mill, SC said she had blue in her bedroom because everyone else had it … and she hated it! She said it felt cold and depressing.

When you think about it, what does blue really mean? Got the blues? Feeling blue? Cool soothing blue?

What the heck would you want blue in your home if it has those meaning behind it?

Blue is one color that I would never have in my home for that reason alone.

Now the good thing about blue is that it makes the dreaded orange kitchens look a heck of a lot better. See this graphic I drew? Orange and blue look really cool together so if you are the unfortunate ones to have those orange tones in your home, no worries, certain blues can fix that.

Here's a blue and orange combo that look really nice together.

The other color that will help out the dreaded orange floors is gray. But you have to be really careful when choosing gray next to orange - it very, very tricky and besides, gray is another color that is just meh.

Ok, so I told you about two colors, blue and gray, that I'd be careful of using in your home. So what color or colors do I recommend?

If you guessed green you're correct!  Green also works well if you have those orange tones in your home.

There are cool greens, mint greens, yellow greens and greens that can pass for blue which are fine too.

If you already have blue in your home, accent it with green. Now this is a different look and it's not paired with gray. Here I have an exercise room where you can experiment with color a bit.

This is a great green by Valspar

Green is also a big part of the Coastal color palette. Blue does NOT have to be the main color here.

Want to go bold with green? Look how gorgeous this is and there's nothing cold or depressing about this color.

So, try leaving blue behind and start thinking about green. Another HUGE reason I love green is that it has a great Holistic appeal. Just see how good you'll feel with green in your home - I have it in mine!
