Can you help me with a kitchen color?

Hello, my name is Kristen. I am in the process of decorating my new apartment. The previous owner stuck to plain white walls which is not my style. I love color, however I am having a hard time with the tiles and cabinets that are currently there.

Eventually, I plan on staining the cabinets in the kitchen a dark maple, but for now this is what I am dealing with. (see attached) The black and white tiles are throwing me off and is making it hard for me to chose a color. The table is black granite. What goes?? I'm a huge fan of your blog and know if anyone can help, it would be you. What do you suggest?

As for the bathroom, there is black and white tile as well. (see attached) I am not a fan of this bathroom, however it will have to do for now. I'd like to make small changes that can uplift the area. The shower curtain will go once I find out what color to incorporate into the room. Is it too much to paint Benjamin Moore Newburg Green? I'm really loving this color. Any suggestions here?

I appreciate any help you can give me! I have hit a road block on these two.

Kristen,

I usually charge for color advice but since you are such a huge fan of my blog, this will be a freebie  :-)

I suggest Seattle Mist 1535. It has a warn undertone which will tie in your 'yellow cabinets' for now, it's a perfect companion to the black and white tile and will also match your dark maple when you get it.

Although it's a great color, I'd be careful about using Newburg Green in the kitchen. Use it as an accent color in accessories.

Hope Seattle Mist works for you. Let me know how it goes and thanks for liking my blog.

Donna
