As a Color Specialist in Charlotte, I've heard these questions time and time again. The homes here in Waxhaw, Weddington, Marvin and Ballantyne are very large and they all have open floor plans.

The painting season is quickly approaching us. Early Spring is when I'll see people making a mad dash for color to spruce up their home.

February is a good time to start getting your ducks in a row if you are asking any of these questions. By March, you'll have your game plan ready to set in motion. It's now April and time to start painting - if you haven't already.

So how do you go about choosing a color palette for your home? Let me outline a few more color concerning questions before you start.

Think about neutrals for your foyer and hallways. Here are a few of the popular choices. The tricky thing about these neutrals is the undertone. You really have to be careful when deciding on these neutrals. Some of course are more yellow and some are more pink. The pink neutrals have been known as “pinky beiges” or “band-aid colors”. Choosing the wrong color here will upset the entire color scheme of your home.

Simplify Beige

Once you decide on a foyer color, now you have to choose color for the rest of your home - undertones and all. Not sure how to choose color for your home or which colors to choose?  You'll have to decide if you want bright colors …

  1. Funny how much I've used Coastal Fog-people love it! Yes, just did a home where the homeowner was looking at a beige that I knew was going to have a very pink undertone. It's those tricky undertones that really end up confusing people.
