How to Choose Color for Your Home When You Have a lot of Nooks and Crannies

Well that was a long title! So to start, what are nooks and crannies? It's basically a home that has an open floor plan but is broken up by angles, furniture, doorways hallways, poorly hung lighting fixtures and ceiling fans and just a lot of misplaced decor that clutters up a space.

Nooks and Crannies galore!
What complicates choosing color for this home is the flooring. It has the same flooring throughout the entire home and it's not that great either. It has a very “muted” look which comes across as looking dirty. This will certainly limit the color choices for this home.

What I like to suggest to people who have homes like this is to unify with color. I'm the last person who will suggest one or two colors for most of the home but in this case, it's so needed.

This is actually a virtual client of mine so I'm going to suggest a few soft neutrals to make all the angles be less noticeable.

I will then recommend a soft white color for the the trim and the hallways. The ceiling should be ceiling white because they are just too low to give have color.

So to make odd shapes and too many angles seems less noticeable, use a soft neutral that shares the same undertone as your flooring, countertops and backsplash - hopefully they all coordinate! You can come in with some accent colors where needed for for the most post, less is more here.
