Congratulations on your new house! That was a huge step. Now, let's change that house into a home and we're going to do it in very simple and affordable steps. What's the first thing to do? Choose a new color for your front door.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://color4charlotte.files.wordpress.com/2012/12/one.jpg"><img alt="one" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-2116" src="http://color4charlotte.files.wordpress.com/2012/12/one.jpg" height="76" width="80" /></a><img alt="front_door_color" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-2543" src="http://color4charlotte.files.wordpress.com/2013/02/front_door_color.jpg" height="402" width="496" /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I know as soon as you read that I bet any amount of money that a red door came to mind right? Well you and about 1,000 other people thought of the same front door color. How many thought about blue? Yellow? Brown? Gray? Probably not many and there's a reason for that. There are so many colors to choose from but you have to know what's the best for your home by looking at the colors in stonework, roofing and overall look and feel of your home.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<em><strong>FYI:</strong> Watch your color choices if you have a Home Owners Association. The color may have to be approved before you start your project.</em></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<em><br /></em></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It's the same as choosing color for a dining room - red came to mind again didn't it? That's ok, the same 1,000 people also choose red for their dining room. It's my job as <strong>Color Specialist in Charlotte</strong> to help you break out of the norm and start thinking differently about the color choices for your home.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="red_dining_room" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-2544" src="http://color4charlotte.files.wordpress.com/2013/02/red_dining_room.jpg" height="539" width="500" /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://color4charlotte.files.wordpress.com/2012/12/two.jpg"><img alt="two" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-2117" src="http://color4charlotte.files.wordpress.com/2012/12/two.jpg" height="71" width="84" /></a>Another way to change your house into a home is with area rugs. It's a really very simple way to cozy up a room and also a nice way to add a hint of color here and there. Capel Rug in Matthews is an excellent place to look for an area rug. I can't stress this enough. It's imperative to invest in the best you can afford. Don't go running to a box store and pick out something that's hanging on the rug rack. It won't stand the test of time and the quality just isn't there.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This <strong>Mint Hill home</strong> has a gorgeous area rug that greets you as soon as you walk in. The colors pick up on the wood tone of the flooring and the wall color. The pattern is beautiful and you can see that it's a high quality area rug that will last for a very long time.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<em><strong>Color Tip:</strong> See how this homeowner took the lighter color from the area rug and used it as an overall wall color? That's how you tie in the look of a room especially when you have an open concept home like we do here in <strong>South Charlotte</strong>. Smart and beautiful.</em></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<em><br /></em></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="area_rugs" class="size-full wp-image-2545" src="http://color4charlotte.files.wordpress.com/2013/02/area_rugs.jpg" height="685" width="496" /> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong><a href="http://color4charlotte.files.wordpress.com/2012/12/three.jpg"><img alt="three" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-2119" src="http://color4charlotte.files.wordpress.com/2012/12/three.jpg" height="67" width="68" /></a>Color</strong> is a given. The right color palette is just magical in a home. I just had a client in the <strong>Millbridge </strong><span style="color: black;"><b>subdivision in</b></span> <strong>Waxhaw</strong> who recently said to me, “I would have never thought of that color in my home.” So many colors to choose from, just open your paint fan deck and look. Better yet - just look in your home. Pull a color from your area rug, bedding or even Mom's apron. Keep your eyes open for unusual colors to use.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://color4charlotte.files.wordpress.com/2013/02/bedroom_color.jpg"><img alt="bedroom_color" class="size-full wp-image-2546" src="http://color4charlotte.files.wordpress.com/2013/02/bedroom_color.jpg" height="653" width="496" /></a> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Look at the color on this Master bedroom. This is a perfect example of how easy it is to just pull a color from your bedding and put it on the wall. THIS is how you develop a color scheme for your room and tie in the look. Which came first? The bedding or the room color? Only you and I will know :-)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://color4charlotte.files.wordpress.com/2012/12/four.jpg"><img alt="four" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-2120" src="http://color4charlotte.files.wordpress.com/2012/12/four.jpg" height="69" width="67" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://color4charlotte.files.wordpress.com/2013/02/kitchen_decor.jpg"><img alt="kitchen_decor" class="size-full wp-image-2547" src="http://color4charlotte.files.wordpress.com/2013/02/kitchen_decor.jpg" height="623" width="497" /></a> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>Details:</strong> While we are on the subject of color, don't forget to add details to the kitchen. From pendant lighting, a backsplash, glass front kitchen cabinets and to tie in the look and granite countertop will add instant appeal to your kitchen, the heart of the home ♥</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<br />
Every color has a meaning and feeling. Just like our Chakras, color has purpose. I'll be talking more about this because it's a BIG subject.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Blue and green is very calming, red, yellow and orange have more energy, pink is relaxing and purple may make us feel fun and flirty or Spiritual.<br />
<br />
All these feelings depend on you as an individual and the experiences and memories you’ve had with these hues, however, if you have medical issues there are some colors that will help and some colors that will hinder.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ca7ts0Meqcc/WHpmmXw64GI/AAAAAAAA2ok/gwVoZqM30702V0WkZsL2-LK8sOCqyMWrgCLcB/s1600/holistic-colors-healing-colors-2016-ease.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="384" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ca7ts0Meqcc/WHpmmXw64GI/AAAAAAAA2ok/gwVoZqM30702V0WkZsL2-LK8sOCqyMWrgCLcB/s640/holistic-colors-healing-colors-2016-ease.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
Over the years I’ve had several clients who had special color needs. One client had lost a child, several clients suffered from depression and ADHD, some clients had drug addictions and on the lighter note, even Doctors sought my advice for colors for their offices.
<br />
<br />
So you see, color is not just pigment on the wall but an element in the home that can help our mind and body heal.
<br />
<br />
For example. I’d use high energy colors such as red and orange very sparingly if you have ADHD or a child with Autism. It’s just visually too much to process. For them, I’d stick to blues and greens just to mention a few colors, but you’d have to find out if can can use warm or cool hues. That will be based on how the client reacts when they see the color.
<br />
<br />
I actually had a client to had to feel the color chips as I suggested colors to her so having large color swatches with me at my consultations is a must.
<br />
<br />
Here are some other colors that have general healing properties but again, they will change depending on how YOU feel when YOU see them.
<br />
<br />
Now I don’t claim to be a Doctor of any sort but I do know color and after working with it for over 30 years, I do know which colors “feel” better for clients who have special color needs. Here are a few that will lift your spirits and at the very least, should make you smile Donnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15025125419403123024noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2417858396722376324.post-39605710554835237332016-12-08T09:02:00.000-05:002016-12-08T09:02:04.213-05:00Will Coastal Colors Go With My Decor?This week I've gotten three requests for coastal colors for the home. Interestingly enough, they all are ranch homes in Florida which are perfect for these hues.<br />
<br />
One question asked was, “will coastal color match my art, flooring and furniture?”<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tCXMhbRcq8s/WEljrA8WkPI/AAAAAAAA2c0/OF5QfxFVjtYKNKzyoOR09wUQVN979c5yACLcB/s1600/coastal-colors-001.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tCXMhbRcq8s/WEljrA8WkPI/AAAAAAAA2c0/OF5QfxFVjtYKNKzyoOR09wUQVN979c5yACLcB/s640/coastal-colors-001.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a>This is probably one of the main reasons that so many people still love the coastal color scheme. We know of course that they are soothing and just gorgeous but also, they are very accommodating.<br />
<br />
Are they considered neutral? Another good question.<br />
<br />
Neutral as we know are colors that are fairly plain and don't really have a definite hue or undertone - kinda blah basically. You know the colors I'm talking about, the <a href="http://colorspecialist-charlotte.blogspot.com/2012/03/beige-color-paint-foyer-home-color-help.html" target="_blank">Contractor's Beige</a>, White, Cream - boring, boring and boring.<br />
<br />
On the other hand, these coastal colors have a distinct blue, green or gray yet they seem to match most decors. Right?<br />
<br />
Coastal colors will work if you have dark flooring, <a href="https://decoratingbydonna.com/2013/09/18/oh-no-not-the-dreaded-orange-floors-and-cabinets-again/" target="_blank">the dreaded orange flooring</a>, tile, wood, cork - whatever flooring. It's just a matter of pairing it up with the right hue here.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
Here again it's all about the undertones. If you have an open floor plan, make sure all your undertones are either warm or cool. Use your flooring as a guide because nothing looks worse than mixing warm colors such as your tile for your tile cool paint colors - it just do not transition well.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-k0odWd-woBc/WElmtRp1YOI/AAAAAAAA2dA/yEViym2asU8tNLmOUOOIoMIugbJOuVN7QCLcB/s1600/Donna%2BShelley.001.jpeg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-k0odWd-woBc/WElmtRp1YOI/AAAAAAAA2dA/yEViym2asU8tNLmOUOOIoMIugbJOuVN7QCLcB/s640/Donna%2BShelley.001.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div>
</div>
So to answer the question, yes - coastal colors will match most decors which make it the perfect color scheme for the home.Donnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15025125419403123024noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2417858396722376324.post-30298169456706658962016-11-13T07:54:00.000-05:002016-11-13T07:54:41.422-05:00Can I Have An Accent Color In My Rental Home?Today's Q&A has to do with Accent colors for the rental home. Can you? Yes!!!
<br />
<br />
Dear Donna,
I love color and I would like to have an accent color somewhere in my home but not sure where to have it. The only problem is, I live in a rental property and I have to keep my home neutral. Any suggestions?<br />
<br />
Pam R*******<br />
<br />
Pam,
I can so understand your frustration! You want your home to be colorful but you are limited to beige, white and maybe gray walls if you live in a rental home. Don't fret - there is a solution.
If you can paint your walls, choose a neutral such as <a href="https://www.sherwin-williams.com/visualizer#/active" target="_blank"><strong>Accessible Beige SW 7036</strong></a>. At this point we know that Accessible Beige is a really popular color by Sherwin Williams and it's for a reason.<br />
<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img alt="best color for rental homes" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-8397" height="536" src="https://color4charlotte.files.wordpress.com/2016/11/accessible-beige-sw-7036.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="939" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small; text-align: start;">Accessible Beige SW 7036</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
Why is it so popular? Well basically, this color teeters between a beige and a gray. It's really a super safe color to have in the home and will blend with most decors.
Now to answer you question about an accent color.
Now here is where you have limits.<br />
<br />
First of all, can your home even hold an accent color on the wall? I'm not really seeing too many funky fun accent walls these days but that doesn't mean you can have one. Some homes - such as mine - have pillars and that a great place to add a different color to your palette.<br />
<br />
Don't haven any fun architectural features in your home and still want a pop of color? I know you have a rental but what if I told you there's a really easy way to add a pop of color to your home for under $20 and is also renter safe?<br />
<br />
Try this. Add some color to one of your INTERIOR doors. This door can be your front door, bathroom door, kitchen pantry door or any bedroom door.
Why is this such a great idea? Because it will only take a quart of paint depending on how many doors you are painting. The best part about it is that when I comes time to move out, grab a quart of white and change it back to being renter safe in minutes flat.<br />
<br />
How fun is that?
Happy painting and have fun with your colors.Donnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15025125419403123024noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2417858396722376324.post-92123503554038943142016-10-16T15:12:00.002-04:002016-10-16T15:12:25.874-04:00Get Into Those Fall Hues<div style="border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 24px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
I noticed that my Facebook stream is showing decor and color from the Fall color palette. Some of my friends have already switched from the coastal colors of the Summer to the warm, spicy hues of Fall.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 24px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">

Still the same though - it's all about color. Today, I'd like to talk about Virtual Color has been a HUGE part of my business. Why? Here are a few reasons.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XHJpQDK9DKA/WANyZlnlfoI/AAAAAAAA2Wg/ZuMRVpr6140kLkPN4kSdsLzRgOgbRC4pwCLcB/s1600/be-inspired-by-color.001.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XHJpQDK9DKA/WANyZlnlfoI/AAAAAAAA2Wg/ZuMRVpr6140kLkPN4kSdsLzRgOgbRC4pwCLcB/s640/be-inspired-by-color.001.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 24px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<strong style="border: 0px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Time.</strong></div>
<div style="border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 24px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
They get done VERY quickly. Every Designer works differently but when I put the petal to the metal, I can get a full color palette for the home complete within 24 hours. This is great for the client to has the painter IN the house at the time they contact me – and yes, on rare occasion this does happen.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 24px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<strong style="border: 0px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Convenience.</strong></div>
<div style="border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 24px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
All I need is email access and paint fan decks – that’s it!! This allows me to work anytime, anywhere. Also, think about all the gas I save not having to travel. Think about the time the client does’t have to take off from family or work so I can have two hours of their time. I don’t have to deal with traffic anymore – yay – no more road rage! I also check my emails all day long so unless your email happens to fall into my spam folder (which I also check) I answer color requests usually within minutes.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 24px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<strong style="border: 0px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Safety.</strong></div>
<div style="border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 24px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Now this should be my #1. The last year or so, I stopped going into homes of people I just don’t know. Who really wants to do that? I don’t know about you but I get just a little apprehensive every time I go into the home of someone I don’t know and I’m sure it works both ways. With Virtual Consultations, that is just not necessary anymore. The process is a little different but you get the same high quality and professional service that clients want for their home.</div>
<div style="border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 24px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
So don't be intimidated by color of the fact that there is no Color Expert in the immediate vicinity of your home - it's so not necessary! </div>
<div style="border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 24px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">

<span style="background-color: white; color: #1d2129; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">I'd love to see this color for cabinets! It sure would distract from the orange flooring. What's that they say - accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative? Distract from something in your home that you can't change and make another element shine.</span></div>

</div>
From Nature of course! If you love coastal colors you'd go to the beach to capture the hues of the water, sand and sun right?<br />
<br />
Next time it rains, take notice of the colors you see in the sky -very coastal indeed and you are no where near the beach.<br />
<br />
Here are some hues you'd see on a rainy day that would also fit perfectly into the coastal color palette.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-k9t_KrTesKA/V3P-WCbcssI/AAAAAAAA2G4/s_vP1PKYtSYlq4PpH3Qzn8AJr_7-3sVqgCKgB/s1600/the-best-coastal-colors-for-your-home-3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-k9t_KrTesKA/V3P-WCbcssI/AAAAAAAA2G4/s_vP1PKYtSYlq4PpH3Qzn8AJr_7-3sVqgCKgB/s640/the-best-coastal-colors-for-your-home-3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>Keep the lightest color for your trim and ceiling - no need to be super white here, soft is better.</li>
<li>The blue hues will be most calming for the bedrooms and bathrooms.</li>
<li>The green is best in the living room where the family gathers most of the time. This green is soothing, calming and will go with just about any decor you'll bring in as far as fabrics, furniture and accessories.</li>
<li>The light taupe will tie in nicely for the kitchen.</li>
</ul>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br />
Here are some suggestion for bedrooms. I choose these colors because they are what you'd want to FEEL when you're in the bedroom.<br />
<br />
For example, this color, and not that it's more on the green side of blue, has a very calming feel. This color would be great for the young boy who perhaps has some ADHD issues and needs a little rest for his eyes.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PdFZD3Xv2Fg/Vyn6MAmv2CI/AAAAAAAA2BM/__sQKjbfQ0UOij5Hm5AKZbbWJM6uFHicQCLcB/s1600/holistic-color-for-the-bedroom.001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PdFZD3Xv2Fg/Vyn6MAmv2CI/AAAAAAAA2BM/__sQKjbfQ0UOij5Hm5AKZbbWJM6uFHicQCLcB/s320/holistic-color-for-the-bedroom.001.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A good yellow is really hard to find. Out of all the paint companies there are MAYBE a handful that I personally like. When it comes to yellow and health issues for either a child or adult, make sure it's soft and calming, like butter. We don't want this a high energy feel for the room.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Lavender. LOVE this color for the bedroom! I actually used it back in the day for my girl when she was little. It's a nice transition from nursery to toddler to young girl. As you see I have SOOTHING for this hue and it is!!!! I highly recommend this color also for the adult bedroom. We can all use a little extra calming at the end of a long work day.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-z3pm2pV1p8I/Vyn6L6E3TQI/AAAAAAAA2BQ/NFYn7xijPs4uxnCGnxN4hDhHds6jWj68ACLcB/s1600/holistic-color-for-the-bedroom.003.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-z3pm2pV1p8I/Vyn6L6E3TQI/AAAAAAAA2BQ/NFYn7xijPs4uxnCGnxN4hDhHds6jWj68ACLcB/s320/holistic-color-for-the-bedroom.003.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here I have another green. Notice I'm not using blue at all? When it comes to Holistic color for the home there are two hues that I usually don't use and it's blue and gray. Blue is a very pretty color but it just is a downer for so many people who have health issues. The same obviously goes for gray.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QJvYpErn43s/Vyn6MIWaULI/AAAAAAAA2BU/M6Uympvtalkc1C-DTs47mUsWg93SjhcYQCLcB/s1600/holistic-color-for-the-bedroom.004.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QJvYpErn43s/Vyn6MIWaULI/AAAAAAAA2BU/M6Uympvtalkc1C-DTs47mUsWg93SjhcYQCLcB/s320/holistic-color-for-the-bedroom.004.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Depression issues? Go for this hue that is a combo of orange and yellow. It will give you the get up and go that you so need. When I lived in Pittsburgh for 16 years, I chose a gold color for my living room because the days were just so gray there and it was wearing on my. Trust me when I tell you this is an instant up lift for you well being.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, this color! I used a similar color in my daughter's room when see was a teen. I think it was Guava Jam by Behr. Just an awesome, happy color when those high school years can be so very challenging. It's a happy hue for sure.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

Now brown is great color to have in the home. I have it in an accent wall in my home. It's calming, grounding, cozy and very comforting. I have it by the tub in the Master bathroom. It just looks so comforting when the candles are on and the lights are dim. Guaranteed for a good nights sleep.</div>

Pink is always a good choice for any health concern. I was never a fan until I painted my office a similar pink. I can't even describe the zen I feel when I look at pink. HIGHLY recommend it for any room of the home - you just have to convince Mr. about it :-)</div>

There you have it! Holistic colors all in a row and these are just some of them that I try to incorporate into the home. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Do this. Go down the line and look at each color and the wording that I have with each color. Think about the words, look at the color and see if you feel the same.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Feel different or did another feeling come to mind as you viewed the color?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
How about the colors you have in your home? Any gray? How does that make you feel? Sad? Blah? Nothing? Is that what you want in your home?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Now is the time to get the RIGHT colors in your home. Visit my other blog at: www.DecoratingbyDonna.com for more information on Holistic Color for your home.</div>

You Can Feel It!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/--jf2oPWeHQw/VryPRzf1s1I/AAAAAAAA1m8/bDA2LYx_V9M/s1600/best-sherwin-williams-paint-colors-for-home-donna-frasca-color-expert.015.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/--jf2oPWeHQw/VryPRzf1s1I/AAAAAAAA1m8/bDA2LYx_V9M/s640/best-sherwin-williams-paint-colors-for-home-donna-frasca-color-expert.015.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This is one color that I never thought I'd like until I felt it. I know that sounds crazy! So why do you think pink feels so good?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a>My home office used to be a dark but cozy Paprika color and I loved it!!! All the colors in my home are cozy after all, it's home.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Being in the <a href="http://www.decoratingbydonna.com/" target="_blank">color field</a> as you all know, I thought I'd go out of my comfort zone and test drive a color that I normally wouldn't give a second thought - and that color was pink.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
“Pink???? No way! That's too girly!” I said and said it over and over and over again.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
So I went for it. I bought the paint, brushed and everything else I needed to paint.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Rb4LgjVyU8E/VryRBsnpv1I/AAAAAAAA1nQ/vRFjOz65iPc/s1600/color-for-your-home-color-expert-virtual-color.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Rb4LgjVyU8E/VryRBsnpv1I/AAAAAAAA1nQ/vRFjOz65iPc/s640/color-for-your-home-color-expert-virtual-color.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<h2 style="text-align: center;">
Will this look good? What do I have to lose. NOTHING.</h2>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Doesn't that pink look great? Now a little tip about pink - be careful of the dreaded bubble gum pink, aka the Pepto Bismol pink. You know the color - REALLY bright and obnoxious. No body likes that pink. Either you can go for the softer pinks with the yellow undertone or like I did here, the cooler pink that teeters between a pink and a lavender. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Subtle Purple by Valspar</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
There I am staring at a primed wall and yes - prime!!!!! Even those most paints nowadays say two coats cover, I am not of fan of priming with my expensive paint. Primer is VERY cheap. So prime first THEN paint.</div>

<br />
<br />
This is just a glimpse of how wonderful my office came out. IT FEELS GREAT!!!! I'm all about <a href="http://decoratingbydonna.com/2014/10/11/color-health-holistic-color/" target="_blank">how colors feel and heal</a> so when I tell you that pink has some power, pink has some power.<br />

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-E3BijxQcHC0/Vj-Sj_f-t8I/AAAAAAAA1AU/CjNoeGgl_gI/s1600/holistic-colors-color-cures-donna-frasca-.001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-E3BijxQcHC0/Vj-Sj_f-t8I/AAAAAAAA1AU/CjNoeGgl_gI/s640/holistic-colors-color-cures-donna-frasca-.001.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
As I get deeper and deeper into the Holistic colors and how they can help you feel better in your home, it's important to show you this chart.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><div style="text-align: justify;">
I really want to stress how to intentionaly choose the right colors for your home. Here, I have a chart that shows you the 7 main chakras on the left. To the right, I show you how the color can transfer into hues that you can actually use in your home since the ones of the left are a bit too bright.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Keep in mind that when you choose color for your home, each color represents a feeling, a chakra. <a href="http://www.chakra-anatomy.com/solar-plexus-chakra.html" target="_blank">Here is a website</a> that really explains the chakra system well.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After reading that chart, which colors are you drawn to?</div>

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-duMgWkxq6yo/VgK-DpJgfeI/AAAAAAAA0gs/sAkJKeaDHcM/s1600/fall-color-palette.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-duMgWkxq6yo/VgK-DpJgfeI/AAAAAAAA0gs/sAkJKeaDHcM/s1600/fall-color-palette.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
When you typically think of the <a href="http://decoratingbydonna.com/2015/09/18/fall-colors-you-may-like-these-hues-in-your-home-too/" target="_blank">Fall Color Palette</a> you of course visualize all the warm, spicy colors. They are beautiful hues but you can't fill your home up with all that saturated color. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This chart shows you how you can incorporate the Fall hues into your home while balancing it out with some neutrals and lighter hues.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Add Fall decor for extra color and texture to complete the look.</div>

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Fj0J-_I5pvQ/Vddb-gxf8lI/AAAAAAAA0L8/MJeXjUo2eeg/s1600/brown.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="376" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Fj0J-_I5pvQ/Vddb-gxf8lI/AAAAAAAA0L8/MJeXjUo2eeg/s640/brown.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
If you're looking for a neutral to go in your home but you are are tired of lifeless gray and definitely don't want beige, what are your options?<br />
<br />
Brown is a neutral too but there are so many things to consider before using it in your home.<br />
<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>Brown goes with just about every color which makes it a great neutral to have in your home.</li>
<li>Brown is a dark hue so be careful where you use it</li>
<li>Don't use brown in a North facing room.</li>
<li>Use brown as an accent wall or stripe in a room.</li>
<li>Have a large bonus room? Use a wide stripe around the perimeter of the room to ground it.</li>
<li>Be careful of the other color you use with brown. You don't want to go back to the 70's</li>
<li>Use bright greens and blues to coordinate the browns in your home.</li>
<li>Love earth-tones but don't want to date your home? Use brown towels to add drama to a bathroom.</li>
<li>There are many shades of brown. The ones that look like chocolate look the best in the home.</li>
<li>Try copper or brushed gold hardware in your home. Stainless and Nickel of course are out.</li>
<li>To get the true look of brown on your walls you'll need two heavy coats of paint or use a tinted primer.</li>
</ul>
<div>
So go ahead and use brown in your home. I have it on one accent wall in my bathroom and it' looks great! Cozy next to the tub and I find it very realizing. No cool blues for me in the bathroom!</div>

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BJwYS9ymKbE/VdINf3blS2I/AAAAAAAA0LY/Eq9RmRVtJuU/s1600/blue-hue-color.002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BJwYS9ymKbE/VdINf3blS2I/AAAAAAAA0LY/Eq9RmRVtJuU/s640/blue-hue-color.002.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I get a lot, if not all my blog post inspirations from my clients. Meaning I listen to them and come up with blog posts based on what they said.<br />
<br />
Now this is an interesting direction that I see blue going in and it's not very good.<br />
<br />
The past few clients I've had both live and virtual have not been fans of blue. One client in Fort Mill, SC said she had blue in her bedroom because everyone else had it … and she hated it! She said it felt cold and depressing.<br />
<br />
When you think about it, what does blue really mean? Got the blues? Feeling blue? Cool soothing blue?<br />
<br />
What the heck would you want blue in your home if it has those meaning behind it?<br />
<br />
Blue is one color that I would never have in my home for that reason alone.<br />
<br />
Now the good thing about blue is that it makes the <b><a href="http://decoratingbydonna.com/2012/07/09/the-dreaded-orange-kitchen-3/" target="_blank">dreaded orange kitchens</a></b> look a heck of a lot better. See this graphic I drew? Orange and blue look really cool together so if you are the unfortunate ones to have those orange tones in your home, no worries, certain blues can fix that.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXrsbBdmp1kk540CogjIn-nIo4lOhhUcMyTkqkoziaEKIRz3_n2lb457QzdQktwLYeuQxmI9oN-BsNKan9aKoeFM-1wRIhMoM5nnrsltD7wIrO3PjrPMp1o8wnJNy-G5hhd5UqEQrcC0e2/s1600/moodly-blue.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXrsbBdmp1kk540CogjIn-nIo4lOhhUcMyTkqkoziaEKIRz3_n2lb457QzdQktwLYeuQxmI9oN-BsNKan9aKoeFM-1wRIhMoM5nnrsltD7wIrO3PjrPMp1o8wnJNy-G5hhd5UqEQrcC0e2/s1600/moodly-blue.png" /></a><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eJX0HAnnVIQ/TvHcQRs86PI/AAAAAAAAFG0/POt9X25Tk54/s1600/armagnac.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eJX0HAnnVIQ/TvHcQRs86PI/AAAAAAAAFG0/POt9X25Tk54/s1600/armagnac.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here's a blue and orange combo that look really nice together. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The other color that will help out the <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/DonnaFrasca/the-dreaded-orange/" target="_blank">dreaded orange floors</a> is gray. But you have to be really careful when choosing gray next to orange - it very, very tricky and besides, gray is another color that is just meh.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Ok, so I told you about two colors, blue and gray, that I'd be careful of using in your home. So what color or colors do I recommend? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you guessed green you're correct! Green also works well if you have those orange tones in your home.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_pEGGvfyV8k/Tws7Oq521SI/AAAAAAAAFXA/NySM9fAindA/s1600/green-salmon-2013.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="313" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_pEGGvfyV8k/Tws7Oq521SI/AAAAAAAAFXA/NySM9fAindA/s320/green-salmon-2013.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There are cool greens, mint greens, yellow greens and greens that can pass for blue which are fine too.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uZMWMIfylh8/TxGEs-EJxnI/AAAAAAAAFes/K9zZ1DwrC_s/s1600/nursery-greens.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="190" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uZMWMIfylh8/TxGEs-EJxnI/AAAAAAAAFes/K9zZ1DwrC_s/s640/nursery-greens.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you already have blue in your home, accent it with green. Now this is a different look and it's not paired with gray. Here I have an exercise room where you can experiment with color a bit.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dASY9dOQMRA/Ty_W5fR84aI/AAAAAAAAFuM/NWnwRL4lMxs/s1600/exercise-room-color-charlotte-paint.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dASY9dOQMRA/Ty_W5fR84aI/AAAAAAAAFuM/NWnwRL4lMxs/s640/exercise-room-color-charlotte-paint.jpg" width="566" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is a great green by Valspar</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0HuvXnAae_Q/T0JonHVGPPI/AAAAAAAAF6s/OvPXUM83hN8/s1600/lyndhurst-spring-eve-valspar.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="201" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0HuvXnAae_Q/T0JonHVGPPI/AAAAAAAAF6s/OvPXUM83hN8/s400/lyndhurst-spring-eve-valspar.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Green is also a big part of the Coastal color palette. Blue does NOT have to be the main color here.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3q4vUP3CasI/T0aQnDGPvCI/AAAAAAAAF8s/1B-ZJRBz4r0/s1600/coastal-colors-benjamin-moore.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="458" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3q4vUP3CasI/T0aQnDGPvCI/AAAAAAAAF8s/1B-ZJRBz4r0/s640/coastal-colors-benjamin-moore.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Want to go bold with green? Look how gorgeous this is and there's nothing cold or depressing about this color.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DZurtBgmOLk/T0wKw0B_v4I/AAAAAAAAF-s/b3W_T4xRkyA/s1600/green-walls.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DZurtBgmOLk/T0wKw0B_v4I/AAAAAAAAF-s/b3W_T4xRkyA/s640/green-walls.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
So, try leaving blue behind and start thinking about green. Another HUGE reason I love green is that it has a great Holistic appeal. Just see how good you'll feel with green in your home - I have it in mine!<br />

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Nm3BUU5lMWk/VcdFiahv7cI/AAAAAAAA0H4/irxWkbYEHXY/s1600/blue.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="492" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Nm3BUU5lMWk/VcdFiahv7cI/AAAAAAAA0H4/irxWkbYEHXY/s640/blue.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Oh the blue hue! It's EVERYWHERE! But the truth about blue is well … not so cool.<br />
<br />
Yes that was a play on words. As we know for the most part blue is a cool hue. Knowing that, do we want to bring coolness into a home that should be warm and cozy?<br />
<br />
There reason I mention this is because my client had said a statement about blue the other day that stopped my in my tracks. She said:<br />
<br />
<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“I had blue in my bedroom and it made me feel so very cold! I don't want to be cold in my house I want to feel warm, like the colors of the sunset.”</blockquote>
<br />
I don't know about you but those words were fantastic! Why do we want blue in our homes? Because everyone else does? Because it's a popular color? Because the retail market is flooded with it? Because it's pretty?<br />
<br />
Yes - some blues are just gorgeous but the blues I like teeter between being blue and looking a bit like green. In other words, a warm blue.<br />
<br />
This is another reason I love green but that will be another post. Now back to blue.<br />
<br />
So what advice do I have about blue? Well how about this.<br />
<br />
<br />
<ol>
<li>Use blue in the bathroom. The bathroom is the best place for blue because you get that spa feeling. Again, keep away from those cool blues or blues that have look a little on the purple side.</li>
<li>Blue is for boys. Sure. Put a nice primary blue in your son's room. </li>
<li>Blue is good for your kitchen or living ONLY if you have <a href="http://decoratingbydonna.com/2012/07/09/the-dreaded-orange-kitchen-3/" target="_blank">the dreaded orange kitchen cabinets</a> and flooring. Otherwise, pick a warmer color like green.</li>
<li>Insist on blue in your home? Use it in a strip or accent color somewhere. </li>
<li>Keep your blue light, not over powering.</li>
<li>Put a light, muted blue on your ceiling.</li>
<li>Start looking into greens.</li>
</ol>
<div>
I know blue is going to leave the home anytime soon but I do see it starting to cool down - finally. Now lets start talking about green :-)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Don't feel blue! Be happy</div>

<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LXcwLPyEu44/Vb9SAnNPgoI/AAAAAAAAz54/HlA4AoStjS4/s1600/artist.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="545" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LXcwLPyEu44/Vb9SAnNPgoI/AAAAAAAAz54/HlA4AoStjS4/s640/artist.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
For a homeowner, this is really an ideal way to start decorating your home - with a blank canvas. If you just moved in, you have Contractors Beige on the wall and you have not moved any of your furniture in yet. Now is the perfect time to paint.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Color really can be chosen at any stage of the home but it's really nice when you're working with a blank canvas. You can choose any color scheme you want to and you have nice neutral walls to give you a clearer vision.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So with the house so barren, how do you go about choosing color for the home? What I do is look at your flooring, granite countertops in the kitchen, backsplash, kitchen cabinets, tile and carpeting. All that will dictate if I should use a warm color palette or cool. More than likely it's going to be a warm color palette.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Now if you have a certain look you want for the home, now is the time to tell me. Do you want Coastal? Traditional? Neutral or loaded with saturated hues? Tell me what you want and I use that as a starting point.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If you have any artwork that is a must for your home, I'd like to see so I can get a feel of the colors you like and try to make that art fit into one of the rooms of your home.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Have special drapery or area rugs? Pictures will help so I can tie that in as well. Some clients have iPads with some pictures of their decor which always helps but is not necessary. Just tell me what you have so I can know the general ballpark of colors that you are in.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Once you have your color palette designed, your house is now ready for paint! It now starts looking like a home instead of just a house. You can call it your own by the colors that you choose.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Knowing that your home is already painted, you now can go out and start buying your decor from drapery to area rugs if you are staring from scratch. Don't buy anything useless it matches your paint colors. Oh and if I design your color palette, I give you large (8x10) color swatches of your new color palettes so you can take them with you when you shop. This ensures that you are choosing the right decor for your home based on your new color scheme.</div>

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-z_MCqvLdoEE/VaO1cZ4Y0WI/AAAAAAAAzps/ZJMTYzm4V0w/s1600/sherwin-williams-exterior-color.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-z_MCqvLdoEE/VaO1cZ4Y0WI/AAAAAAAAzps/ZJMTYzm4V0w/s1600/sherwin-williams-exterior-color.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I came across this ad for Sherwin Williams exterior color and it caught my eye. Isn't that a pretty color? I think it would be super cute for a smaller home like a ranch, cottage or bungalow but if you have a two story McMansion, it may be a bit too much blue hue for you.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This is a great color but I think I'd like it more if it were about 30% lighter. Blue homes are very pretty and go along with the coastal feel that everyone loves so much but the blue that you choose needs to factor in with the style of your home and where you live. This blue is reminds me of the home colors you'd see in Williamsburg, VA or a Southern home in Charleston, SC. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Belong to a Home Owners Association? They may not approve such a “strong” color that is why I suggested going much lighter. However, see the gray in the Sherwin Williams ad here? Your home color can be that but choose the blue for your shutters or front door. That would be a perfect compromise.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Great color choices here but so much to consider before you decide on an exterior color for your home.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Choose wisely!</div>

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YW2l2etToGA/VZ7ikO4iw6I/AAAAAAAAzmw/RWRGDd_GFyI/s1600/house-for-sale.002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YW2l2etToGA/VZ7ikO4iw6I/AAAAAAAAzmw/RWRGDd_GFyI/s640/house-for-sale.002.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<h3 style="text-align: center;">
What colors should I choose for my home if I'm moving soon?</h3>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Oh I get asked this question all the time and the answer is all about compromise. You have to choose colors that you like while you're living in the home yet also think about colors that the future home buyer will like as well. That's a large range of colors.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So how does one go about this? Carefully.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
You have to keep in mind that YOU will be living in the home for X amount of years so you really need to be looking and enjoying colors that you like. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
However, you can't personalize your colors too much because what if the next potential owners don't like the color you chose and now they have to repaint the entire home. You may lose a sale because painting a 4,000 square foot home can be quite costly.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Here's what you can do.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
1. You can go with the blue and gray color palette that most people have in their home at this point be cause it's still a very likable color palette and it really goes with so many decors. To me, that sounds like a “follow” and a snore to me unless you happen to be part of the percentage of people who love the blue-gray trend.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Another option is to totally neutralize your home with shades of gray (no movie or book reference here). Gray is safe and will also go with most decors BUT only if your flooring isn't too yellow. Cool grays look horrible with yellow tile, wood floor or carpeting that has a yellow undertone.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Go beige? No, that's never a good idea. I recently was in a clients home that was ALL the same color beige and it was, well just not good.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Not only did the house look undefined painted all the same color but the beige they chose was a dirtily looking beige now the house looks “unclean”. Not a good look to live in or when selling your home.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So this brings me to a color palette that you'll love while you in the home and have a high probability that the next home owner will like as well. What do you think?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VYFIJjbuOQU/VZ71dd2LEzI/AAAAAAAAznU/T2OrreEzevY/s1600/best_coastal_colors.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VYFIJjbuOQU/VZ71dd2LEzI/AAAAAAAAznU/T2OrreEzevY/s640/best_coastal_colors.jpg" width="392" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Let's break it down. Here you have the ever so popular gray in the foyer which is a great neutral to have as the core of your home. Not beige and warm enough to complement any flooring, even flooring with a yellow undertone.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The trim is a soft white which is fairly stranded and you can also take that color up on your ceiling just in case you still have that awful builders “ceiling white” there which isn't really white at all. Sometimes it looks peachy and throws off the entire color palette. A small detail but an important one. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The kitchen as we know has very little wall space to I suggest a light color that will play off the gray foyer color. Hopefully you have a beautiful gray and white granite (not the dated brown-gold combo that every model home has. This color will lighten and brighten your kitchen space which is a really smart thing to do.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Next I chose a warm yellow, not a beige, for the family-living room. Have brown leather furniture? This will look great! The yellow also plays off the gray foyer, gray and yellow are a very classic duo, and so far all these colors look great with the off white trim.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Last but not least, the most color you should have in the home is in the dining room. Dining rooms usually have substantial color compared to the rest of the house so you're ok here. This “new” green, do not use sage or mint green, is perfect for those family dinners. Oh and don't even think about red in the dining room. Just no.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
And there you have your blue which goes in the master bedroom where both Mr. and Mrs. will agree on liking this color. It's beachy, clean and again look great with the soft white trim.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
See? That was fairly easy to do. Here you have a color palette where everyone will be happy both present and future homeowners.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Want to know what these colors are? Send me an email and we can set up an <a href="http://decoratingbydonna.com/virtual-consultations/" target="_blank">virtual color consultation</a> and you're home will be set for sale.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4_2VzOhWToA/VZvCpW145XI/AAAAAAAAzl4/taydfDaOrXM/s1600/dated_color.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4_2VzOhWToA/VZvCpW145XI/AAAAAAAAzl4/taydfDaOrXM/s640/dated_color.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I recently spoke to a very good friend of mine about her kitchen. Now without going into detail because I don't have any pictures, her kitchen is the MOST DATED KITCHEN I'VE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE! Now how do you tell your best friend that her kitchen belongs in a museum? Yes, it's that bad.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Anyway, when it comes to redesigning an entire kitchen, that's a lot of money, time and aggravation. But what if the guts of your kitchen are just fine but the color is off? Then you are very lucky because that's an easy fix.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
We all know that you can change the entire look of your home with color but most people really struggle with choosing the right color. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I recently spoke with someone who wanted a green for their bathroom and just chose a green. Well I saw it and before I could press my PAUSE button, the words already came out of my mouth, “That is one minty looking bathroom!”</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
It was not good.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
With millions of colors to choose from, how do you just choose one? That's where it gets tough for many people.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Guess they figure that they'll just choose a green or a blue and it'll look good. Well no, it doesn't work that way.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-j71bpLGNHIQ/TyQEExzYVLI/AAAAAAAAFoM/Yb3p5VYDwPk/s1600/pantone-colors.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-j71bpLGNHIQ/TyQEExzYVLI/AAAAAAAAFoM/Yb3p5VYDwPk/s640/pantone-colors.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<br />
I've seen so many “baby blue, my house looks like a nursery” rooms because they chose the wrong blue.<br />
<br />
I've seen several homes that look like you just squeezed toothpaste all over the walls because they chose the wrong green and got mint instead of sage.<br />
<br />
I can't even tell you how many band-aid homes I've seen because they thought, “oh it's just beige, I'll pick this one” and now they are stuck with the dreaded pinky beige all over their home.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UhxG036MeeU/VZvH3iaQjtI/AAAAAAAAzmI/AIlnzXtyQog/s1600/band-aids.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="390" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UhxG036MeeU/VZvH3iaQjtI/AAAAAAAAzmI/AIlnzXtyQog/s400/band-aids.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I know kitchens don't have that much wall space after all, the cabinets and appliances take up most of the space. Add in the fact that your kitchen probably opens up to your dining room or living space and even some windows may be in your kitchen as well. Not much wall space but still, it has to be the right color.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Don't gamble with color. It's just not worth it. I am available to help and I have a <a href="http://decoratingbydonna.com/virtual-consultations/" target="_blank">Virtual Design service</a> that is perfect for this. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Need just one kitchen color? Need color for just your first floor? Entire home? Whatever it is, just ask and in a few short hours, you'll have the right color for your home. </div>

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3wM_k1d-sFA/VZVEFLbE0PI/AAAAAAAAzkQ/kI0vgCfRNeE/s1600/neutral-color-for-home-donna-frasca.002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3wM_k1d-sFA/VZVEFLbE0PI/AAAAAAAAzkQ/kI0vgCfRNeE/s640/neutral-color-for-home-donna-frasca.002.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<h3 style="text-align: center;">
<b>Neutral colors are a must to balance all the other colors in your home.</b></h3>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I am the last person who would be rooting to have neutral colors in the home but remember, design is all about balance. You have to have neutral colors to balance all the other colors in your home. If you have color in every single room of the home your home will begin to take on the “quilt” look where you have patches of color - everywhere. That's not good.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
See this picture? The dog is a neutral and it balances all the shades of green. Neutrals give the eye a place to “rest” so you can enjoy the rest of the hues in your home. There's even a little pop of pink for an accent color.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This photo is an excellent example of good color design. You have your wall color which is some shade of green, light or dark, whichever you prefer. You have your accent color which either can be the darker green or the pink and you have neutral which is either a beige, light gray or white. That's for your foyer, halls, laundry room, closets or even your kitchen where you have very little wall space.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
That's all you need! I'm available for <a href="http://decoratingbydonna.com/virtual-consultations/" target="_blank">Virtual Color Consultations</a> if you would like help with color for your home. </div>
