What color should I paint my dining room ceiling?

This is an interesting question. Just because you have a decorative ceiling in the dining room doesn't mean you need to paint it.

When ever I get to this part of the color consultation, everyone wants to know what colors should go on the ceiling. Just because it's there, doesn't mean you have to color it.

It all depends on the look you want for your dining room. Do you want light and airy? Dramatic? Traditional? How about trying something different and NOT place color on the ceiling?

One of my recent clients had a very large home and she wanted to paint her home once and then be good for the next 15 years. That's a long time to be staring at the same dining room color. So what do you do in a case like this? Find a forever color and a classic look.

I chose a medium tone green (not shown because the house is not painted yet) that was slightly muted and went with the light gray that she had in the main part of her home, yes it was also a very open floor plan.

When it came to choosing color for the ceiling, I just felt less was more in this case and opted out for color, which is highly unusual for me to do.

I felt the ceiling needed something but definetly not color. What did I do? I played around with sheen.

I kept the ceiling white but alternated from flat ceiling white to a soft white but in a satin sheen. This is an excellent choice for the dining room that needs to be classic in design but still could use some interest on the ceiling without using color.

I'm looking forward to seeing how it came out.
