The Ottoman

I thought it would be fun to dedicate a post on Friday's just for fun. Instead of talking about color all week, I want to throw a little interior design humor in the mix, well, just for fun. After all, I'm also an Interior Designer so I would like to talk about design once in while. So, having said that - here we go. Premiering this Friday is …

The Ottoman

Ok. To start off with even the name Ottoman sounds funny. What exactly is an Ottoman you say?

A low upholstered seat, or footstool, without a back or arms that typically
serves also as a box, with the seat hinged to form a lid.”

As per the English Dictionary by the way.

I also don't see anywhere in the definition stating the “ottoman” can also be called the “coffee table”. Let's check - coffee table, noun.

“A low table, typically placed in from of a sofa.”

I know that coffee tables are placed in front of the soft and it's oh so tempting to place your feet upon them while watching TV. I can almost see some of you laughing now. But - PLEASE DON'T PUT YOUR FEET ON MY COFFEE TABLE!!! Because - you now know what the Ottoman is used for.

This post is dedicated to my
loving husband of 20 years as we approach Superbowl Sunday.

  1. Haha! We put our feet up on our formal coffee table in the family room all the time. It has a glass top,(also great to use as a light table for art projects) so it's a little cold when you put your feet/legs up on it. Problem is solved by putting some pillows on top.So much more comfortable and not cold on your legs!

  2. Oh, I forgot to mention in the post that he has his "special pillow" for his feet. Oh well, at least the pillow matches my LR.

Glass table doubles as a light table - brilliant idea Pam. Thanks for that!

  3. Coffee tables really get in the way of our ottomans, don't they ? I just posted my newly upholstered one today.

    Fun post Donna!
How about an ottoman with a tray on top to do both jobs? An Otto-table? A Coffee-man?
My number one rule in decorating is to USE your furnishings.
