Expensive homes gone wrong

What beautiful homes here in Firethorn, NC in Marvin. So unique, so large and most well over a million dollars. I was looking through the pictures online at these homes for sale, not because I'm in the market to buy a new home but because I like to see what colors are inside these amazing homes. Take a look.

sorry for the poor quality photos

It broke my heart to see the colors that were chosen in this home. Let's start with the living room. Can you even see the gold custom drapery there? The walls are the same color as the drapery and a bit dated at that. The scale of the furniture and accessories are wrong. Should the TV even be in this room? And the chair is clashing with the area rug.

Now let's go into the kitchen. Pea green in the kitchen? To me, that would be a little unsettling if that was the first color I'd see before my cup of coffee in the morning. Not sure what that design is on the range hood but I'm sure I'd take it off. The chandelier is a bit Gothic and again the scale for the accessories is off in this room.

I think it'd be a bit disheartening to purchase a home in this price range then have to turn around and spend more money to repaint it. Worse yet, will it sell?

This is a perfect example of why a professional Home Stager and Color Specialist should be hired - especially with expensive homes like these! Here's what I'd do to change the color.

These classic shades of champagne will blend well with the tile that is on the fireplace. Since it's a classic color, you'll find that these colors will go with just about any furniture or accessories that are in the room. It's a much better and "classier" choice then that gold.

Keeping in mind that this house may have an open floor plan, the colors that will be in the kitchen will have to compliment the colors that are in the living room. Having said that, I choose these warm grays for the kitchen. They are an offshoot from the living room colors and will look amazing with the creamy cabinetry and granite countertops. Again, warm, neutral and very classy.

  1. Donna they need your help seriously. Million dollar home and the decor and color scheme is so bad!~ They do not even look like the same rooms in the same home, no flow at all!~ YUK!

  2. Hi Debbie! Yes, this is a concerning situation when you have a home with this price tag and it's not staged for selling. I hope that any potential buyers can see through the irregular paint scheme. It would present better if it were staged to sell. Best of luck to them!

By the way, did you see all the great comments on my posting about your home? It was fun!

  5. I didn't take the photographs so I'm not 100% sure. I'm just commenting on the choice of color that was used. Since the house is a 1.5 million dollar home here in Charlotte, my guess would be that yes, it is granite.

  6. Oh dear, oh dear! Isn't it tragic when this happens? Fortunately, paint is cheap, relatively speaking...if they're smart, they'll call YOU next time!
